Description:

The 12,30 m long sailing yacht Wings of Wismar is the oldest and largest boat owned by the club. It can accommodate up to 12 people and has 6 berths. With her we take part in the Wednesday regatta and start for longer trips.

History:

The sailing yacht originally named Nicola IV was developed in 1966/67 in close cooperation with the then private client, the Bremen shipyard De Dood and the American design office W. H. Tripp. It was built under the instruction of Bill Tripp in double carrugated construction (2x19mm Tabasco mahogany, glued and screwed) on laminated oak ribs (rib spacing 22.5cm). Mainly the Nicola IV should be used for high sea regattas like the Admirals Cup and other regattas on the North Sea and Baltic Sea. She has a split lateral plan, a two salings aluminium rig and can be sailed out of the cockpit with one hand.

In the first years the yacht successfully took part in various regattas and experienced, during the round Skagen regatta, its heaviest storm (12 Bft, broke rudder quadrant), until 1969 the measuring rules for the Admirals Cup were changed and the ship changed its owner. A Hamburg doctor converted it into a cruise ship and from then on used it under the name Memory for longer holiday trips to Sweden and Norway with its home berth being in Kiel. Today there are 6 berths, 2 makeshift berths, a pantry, a chart table, a toilet and a lot of storage space on the boat.

Out of health reasons the Memory was sold in 2003 and should be used as a charter yacht. However, she changed her owner again at short notice, who overhauled her between 2004 and 2008 and used her for trips to the Stockholm archipelago, among other places. From the hands of this owner the again renamed Nicola changed in 2013 into the possession of the Academic Sailing Club Wismar, where she is used today for the Wednesday regatta, training trips, several day trips in the Baltic Sea and short trips.
