Nytro

General Information

The Nytro will be replaced/supplemented by our Seabreeze in the 2026 season. Since the start of the 2019 season, the NYTRO has been used as a training boat, for short trips, and for the Wednesday regatta on Wismar Bay. With it, we give sailing enthusiasts the chance to gain their first hands-on experience. Our experienced members are always on hand to assist or use the boat to hone their own skills.

The Dyas is a dinghy-style boat with a flat, planing hull featuring a moderately raked bow. It offers sunbathing areas on the foredeck and aft deck. The large central bench surrounding the boat provides comfortable seating for up to three people. This clever blend of a sporty dinghy and a small yacht is what makes this boat so popular even today. It is, on the one hand, a regatta class for ambitious sailors and, on the other, a very safe beginner’s and family boat thanks to its width and 300-kilogram keel fin.

History

The Dyas was designed in 1970 as a two-person keelboat by Helmut Stöberl (d. March 2, 2023). Under his leadership, the Monas, Trias, Condor 55, and Condor 70 boat classes were also developed. The focus was on minimizing the influence of materials as much as possible. The hull is therefore made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP), with a mast and boom made of lightweight aluminum.

The DYAS Class Association was founded in Essen on September 4, 1970, and was entered in the register of associations in 1971. The association’s primary objectives included, above all, the establishment of construction and measurement regulations. In addition, it was to compile an annual regatta calendar and issue newsletters to all members.

In 1973, the German Sailing Association granted recognition as a national class; the development as a one-design class was intended to promote competitive sailing.

Sailing characteristics

Thanks to its heavy lead keel, the Dyas boasts easy-going sailing characteristics and is therefore considered beginner-friendly. Even if the many trimming options might seem overwhelming to a beginner at first glance, this boat covers all the intricacies of sailing and offers a steep learning curve, especially for those new to the sport.
Equipped with a trapeze, spinnaker, traveller, and many other trimming options, the boat also offers experienced sailors the opportunity to continually improve their skills—or to get the most out of themselves and the boat during regattas.
